Notes |
- "A little boy" born with a Frauentauf. A Frauentauf literally translates to "Women's baptism." Because infant mortality was great and the fear that a child might die unbaptized was even greater, the midwife also provided holy water at each birth. If the child was weak or the birth was difficult (i.e., there was an apparent danger to the child?s life), the midwife baptized the child immediately. The priest would then record it as Frauentauf.
