| Peter George Neelsen Obituary Peter Neelsen: Services will be held for Peter G. Neelsen of Aptos, who died Jan. 4. He was 80.
Mr. Neelsen was born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. He attended Fordham University and graduated from New York University.
After joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 he earned two sets of wings before his discharge in 1945.
He bought a small Cessna with a friend while he was active in the Civil Air Patrol.
From 1946 until 1987 he worked for Pan American Airways [N.B. founded in 1927, Pan Am declared bankruptcy in 1991, in part due to the terrorist bombing in 1988 of Flight #103 over Lockerbie GB-SCT]. He was an aviation pioneer, setting up new stations in places such as Auckland, Teheran and Capetown, which established direct access to remote countries.
Mr. Neelsen settled in Aptos in 1989, three weeks after the Loma Prieta earthquake.
A memorial gathering will be at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 6401 Freedom Blvd. Aptos. |
